Sycamore, in Bethel, CT is an old fashioned burger joint with no nonsense. I catch a ride up there whenever my friend goes to visit her family and it’s really worth it. No long waits for food, you just walk in, sit down, and a waitress will come right over and take your order. Or you can eat in your car with the car-side service.
The past two times I have gotten the root beer. It’s homemade, I don’t know how they do it but it is fantastic. They serve it in a frosty mug which I personally love. This time I tried to figure out what was in the root beer that made it taste so great. I have concluded that there is a hint of maple syrup in there. I could be wrong but they’d never tell me if I was.
The burgers at this place are to die for. The steak is fresh ground on the premises. They are not your typical burger patties. They are more like a steak patty of sorts. I ordered the double with bacon with pickles and onions (yes, that’s what comes on the burger normally). The burger is juicy, slightly messy, and flat out fantastic. The bacon with the onion and pickle gives it a nice texture. At only $5.25 you can’t go wrong.
Also, check out the Dagwood, Sycamore’s signature sandwich. It has everything on it and you guessed it, it’s named after famous comic book character Dagwood Bumstead of the Blondie comics in your local paper since he’s famous for making enormous sandwiches with everything on them. The Dagwood also goes for $5.25. Sycamore also has the usual fast food accessories like fries, onion rings, and shakes. The buzz is that the hot dogs & beans are a must try…maybe next time! They even bring you the check when you get your food, no hassle of signaling the waitress. Just pay it on the way out. This place is worth the drive. Check it out at least once and especially if you’re in the area.
