The Red Barn is exactly what it’s title suggests, a red barn. It’s located off the Merrit Parkway in Westport, just at the bottom of the exit ramp.
This place has a blast from the past feel as you walk in the front doors. The walls are decorated with vintage farm tools as well as other interesting objects. There are music instruments, record players, lanterns, clocks. But the Red Barn isn’t famous for its decorative walls or its straight forward short and sweet name. Like any good eatery, it’s for the food.
Today’s visit I decided to go with the 24oz porter house steak. I didn’t want to go to crazy. My other options were the 32oz and the 45oz…but that will be for another day.
I was at a table with about 20 other people and we were all sharing appetizers such as fried calamari, a selection of bread and smoked salmon. My favorite was the smoked salmon. It was hands down the best I have ever had.
When our main dishes came out it was clearly obvious which plate was mine. A few people ordered the Italian special lasagna and manicotti. Some had the chicken francese. But all eyes were on my plate as the brought over my quarter cow. I got it medium rare. The way I like it.
On the side was red potatoes, chopped vegetables, and a buttery sauce that was just amazing. The steak was nice and tender. Real juicy and cooked to perfection.
The 24oz porter house ran about $32 but for the quality of the food and the quantity, you get a deal. I love going to the Red Barn and when ever there is an opportunity to go there, I make sure I am on the guest list.
The service at the Red Barn is also great. Very polite staff and always smiling. And the overall presentation of this place is great. It’s perfect for huge celebrations or if you just want a nice romantic night out at a table for two.
