|In case you’re wondering, that’s a shot of Jameson next to the beer.
Even though its name makes me think of a Daniel Day-Lewis movie, Brooklyn Brewery’s There Will Be Black is a beer I thought passed me by.
And I know what you’re thinking, “Another Brooklyn post?!” Yeah, yeah, blah, blah, blah. It won’t be the last either!!!
There Will Be Black was out of season when on St. Patrick’s Day I scoped it on a beer menu. Immediately all the Guinness, Smithwick’s, and Harp became irrelevant.
This beer lives up to the “Black” moniker. It sure was dark, and tasted lighter despite its 7.5% ABV. I usually don’t dig dark brews but maybe the American and New Zealand hops got me? No, no, it was the taste of the dark chocolate and black bread and that citrus from the orange. Brooklyn says there’s some mint in there too but perhaps I was too far gone on an Irish holiday to notice.
I guess I’ll have to wait a while for a second shot since it’s available from November-January but who knows, maybe a bar near me has a stash that they’ll break out one unexpected night.
